In February, 1968, Paul Saltzman traveled to the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's ashram in Rishikesh, India to learn meditation. His time there was profoundly life-changing. While there, he met John, Paul, George and Ringo, and over the following days, as they hung out together, he took some photographs.

Paul's time with the Beatles had been intimate and private moments for him. Although each of the Beatles, and the other famous folks he photographed there, had given him explicit permission to take their pictures, when he returned home he put his Ektachrome transparencies away in a cardboard box in his basement, and forgot about them.
Two years ago, remembering a long-ago childhood story her father had told her, Paul's daughter reminded him of the photographs and now, 33 years later, these never before seen photos, along with Paul's personal memoirs of his time with the Beatles, have been published in a stunning book by Viking Studio of Penguin-Putnam in New York.
World renowned rock and roll memorabilia specialist Stephen Maycock, at Sotheby's auction house in London, England wrote in his introduction to the book The Beatles in Rishikesh: "Paul Saltzman's intimate and remarkable photographs; some of the best I have seen.  These are to be welcomed by both fans and historians of the Beatles alike, for these images provide a significant addition to the detail of what is a relatively little-recorded episode in the career of the most important rock group the world has known."
